Welcome, Sharing some info on mail in all of USA. getting ready for our ATC exchange.
Sizes for Letters
You probably have a picture in your mind of what a "letter" is. Possibly you're using a standard No. 10 envelope for your letter, so that's easy to picture. However, if you decide to create a mailpiece with its own special envelope or if you are designing a piece that will be folded to letter-size, be sure to keep in mind the following size requirements for letters:
Dimension | Minimum | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Height | 3-1/2 inches | 6-1/8 inches |
Length | 5 inches | 11-1/2 inches |
Thickness | 0.007 inch | 1/4 inch |
To be eligible for mailing at the price for letters, a piece must be:
- Rectangular
- At least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick.
- No more than 6-1/8 inches high x 11-1/2 inches long x 1/4 inch thick.
First-Class Mail letters that have one or more nonmachinable characteristics will pay a nonmachinable surcharge. Customers can be unpleasantly surprised that they must pay extra postage when, for example, they mail a square greeting card. The Postal Service charges extra postage because mailpieces that are rigid, square, or unusually shaped, often jam postal equipment and are difficult to process. This costs the Postal Service time and money—and may also damage your mailpiece.

Glad you were kept safe from tornados where you are Sylvia. Hope the internet and electricity aren't too much further disturbed for you. Hope your daughter's stall did well - it looks great. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #1
Hopefully you will not have more problems with the weather and stay safe. The postal charges have gone up again over here and it makes just sending a birthday card a silly price now sadly.
Hugs,

Your post sounds worse than here ! The stall looks great , hope it went well . Happy 1st May. Helen #3
Looks as if DIL had a wonderful stall - I hope she did really well.
Sorry to hear about your weather. I thought this cold and wet weather we were experiencing (call this Spring?) was bad enough bukt your weather has been dangerous!
Don't envy you the dentist, my least favourite visit.
hugs, Neet 2 xx
I hope the weather calms down now it sounds scary. As for the postal service it makes you wonder if they don't want you to use it at all. They did something like this in the UK years ago specifying envelop sizes and weight. Take care and happy woyww, Angela x12x
I'm glad to hear you are okay after the bad weather there. It feels like the whole world is having 'inclement weather' every week at the moment and we have another storm incoming here this evening. I hope your daughter's trip was successful. Have a great week, Lisa-Jane #7 www.prettymypage.co.uk
I hope the weather calms down and your electricity isn't too badly disrupted either. Thanks for the info on the postal service, it does make you wonder whether they are making it as hard as possible to post anything. The UK isn't much better. I hope you DIL's stall did well. Michelle #19
Most of my card blanks are square- 6 x 6, 7 x 7. Is this something new, the surcharges? Arrived at our first site of the year yesterday. Beautiful views. The wind started in the evening, kept going all night, then about 7 am two of the bands holding the awning down snapped and as my husband was trying to do something, the awning flipped over the caravan! Disaster, ripped awning, broken poles! What a start to the holiday! Angela #15
Glad you are ok, least we only get wind and rain, not tornados! I think my nearest Post Office makes up the prices to the USA! Once wanted to charge me nearly £8 for an ordinary sized card, made my excuses and left...went to another Post Office and it was half the price...still alot for something so simple. Have a great week! Happy WOYWW!?((Lyn))#16
Tornados - scary - glad you are OK and you've got power and internet. As for the mail - I thought it was bad here in Canada...! Your DIL makes some lovely things! Have a great week, Lindart #22
