Re Constructing an Old Book for use as a Vintage Glue Book

Welcome, not to long ago I joined a facebook group called "Vintage Glue Book and Pages". It's been a fun experience, following prompts at leisure to create Vintage Collage Pages.
I've always loved my ATC exchanges and working on little spaces, so I started the prompts on 4x6 white index cards, as I have an abundance of them.  But I had no place to put them. I needed a journal/book and felt using an actual page would work better.

I found a good size book, I can glue my 6 already made pieces into and continue using it as I create.

First I deconstructed this book:  And I kept the pages, for maybe using here and there in this book.

 I found red bias tape to finish off the edges  (I thought about the red masking tape and lace, but did not like either as well as the bias tape)

 And I used clothes pins to hold the bias tape until the glue dried.

 I decided against a spine and re read use of my big bite crop a dile. I had red rings and eyelets and the process worked so well.   I then made a white template to use for making the holes for the soon to be added pages.

 My little book is complete.  I will be choosing papers and filling it over my "leisure" time !!

.  This is the group, I have created the Zines for exchange, the "Birds and Bees" post card exchange  just recently.   It's been relaxing and helped me get thru some of life's chaos.

Some info on Post Office thickness of letters.  A few leaves I want to watercolor and below are a few more  Vintage Glue book collage pages.

We have cold rainy weather, both sides of our state are in terrible flooding conditions because of levy's breaking.  Our road is like slime, so I've not ventured out alone.  Was a busy week with my mother,  was not up to visiting any blogs, but hope to this week.

Oh happy day...Welcome. The sun is out, I've missed you all and I am almost caught up from being gone 10 days visiting my son and family

Summer made her 1st communion and the other 2 had birthdays. We toured Boston, had a magnificent lunch at "Cheers" bar. Walked a lot, rode the train and trolley's and managed to make it thru 6 lanes of busy traffic.  So fun to be with them and enjoy part of their life. Saw so many historic sights, their competition swimming, and karate. 

Besides catching up with life here at the farm we now have a Mother Cow who has a new set of twins as of yesterday.  And my husband has 1 field of corn worked, planted and sprayed.

I have been enjoying time at my desk. Making Vintage Glue Pages I joined a group on Facebook and am learning the art of Collage.  It's also where I came up with the Zine and our Post Card swap  I have a post just below this all about the Collage Works.

It's Julia our host here at the STAMPING GROUND on Wednesday that keeps me connected to all of you and the fun things you share. 

Have a wonderful week. We finally have sunshine and warm temps. I started my walking with walking with my grand daughters each day to school and I am keeping it up here at home. I've lost about 10 lbs by being gone !~!!

SHARING Vintage Glue Book Fun

A few months ago I joined a group on Facebook, Vintage gluebooks and pages  and I really have enjoyed the learning experiences.  Collage, Zines, and working at your own pace on Glue books and pages.

 Since my return I have had some time to start with the Glue Book item #1

Required items: a map, a paint chip, something round, a form, something from the grocery store and a stamp. Our hostess gives the prompts to use for each page. 

These are the first 2 I have done for the Collage Works Assignments:

 #CW1  WHITE various shades of white

#CW2  Black & White

These are all on 4x6 Index cards I purchased 100 for 10 cents on a close out sale, so I have LOTS.

I hope you have a great week and enjoyed this post.  It has been a fun past time. Most everything with Vintage Glue Books  is from simple things you have at home  scraps of paper, anything from an old book, newspaper or magazines.  A glue stick, scissors. and a notebook to glue things to.

A new group I joined on Facebook, and I am fascinated with the fun process. 

My last post for WOYWW I had a was in the process of  sorting scraps/ephemera/stickers etc.  Took me a week but I hope it will be easier to find and start "using"

Plastic CD holders have paper embellishments/die cuts by color  Some of the drawer containers have die cuts by flowers/occasions/ (birthday, wedding, kids etc)  

In the blue basket are clear pouches from Amazon that have a variety of ephemera

so I am happy that all is located in one place, and will be happier when I can be using them.

A ZINE for a Swap

Welcome, it's been a while since I've had time or around to share any ideas or partake in my weekly fun.

I mentioned some time ago I was making a Zine for a swap and wanted to wait until all had submitted theirs  before I posted mine. . They  will be mailed out in a day or so by the gal  who organized this swap. I can hardly wait for them to arrive.  For the swap we kept the original and made our copies to mail in for our swap partners. So there were no raised embellishments etc on those. 

I chose to use a "Wing" theme. And this is the front cover. Page 1   These photos do not really show the tea dyed paper very well.   The original is much darker.

There are many videos on YouTube on the process of folding and cutting your paper to make a Zine.
I used  this one.  and viewed several others.  I was intrigued, and love seeing the different paper ideas.

So then, what is a zine?

A zine (pronounced zeen) is an independently or self-published booklet, often created by physically cutting and gluing text and images together onto a master flat for photocopying but it is also common to produce the master by typing and formatting pages on a computer.The publication is usually folded

He likes unusual techniques in many things. So thought it was a good project to show him.

I have been sorting scraps/ephemera/stickers etc. down to this...some jewelry to repair
If any one has ideas for easy access of these items let me know. Scraps I've sorted by color in file folders but the rest I am at a loss for.

A card I made for my sister's birthday:

and in the post below is a large ZINE  12x12 paper was used to make a birthday card for my grandson's 16th birthday.  Some were wondering about Zines  YouTube has several great helps, usually 8 1/2 x 11 paper is used, but  the 12 x 12 made a great card. Had fun making it.

My zine for the swap will be post sometime this next week.   You would not believe how much time it took me to load these 3 photos.  So kind of delay somewhere. But once I located them I re saved them and it worked.

And the following post has several ATC's  I made for the Guest Designer and some for the challenge. They were so fun.

Large Zine for my Grandson

Hi everyone, thanks for stopping by.  I have made a Birthday Zine for my grandson who turned 16 a few days ago.  He loves architectural and unusual things. So instead of an $8 card, I thought this would be good.

It was made from a 12x12 piece of cardstock and I used the inside for some quotes I thought were appropriate.   So it is much larger than a zine using the 8 1/2 x 12 . If you want instructions on the folding process there are several excellent YouTube videos. 

Inside, most are from Tim Holtz stamps. Fully opened 

 Evidently I did not take a fully opened of the main zine.  Below still folded  I have 2 parts which make up the pages when folded.

 Below is a little pocket for $$ which comes off  Grandpa wrote on oneside and I wrote on the other. 

It was really fun to make, but the photos are quite hard to see. So click and enlarge them. It's been some dark, cold days here.    Have a great week.
